-Back in November, Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter predicted that Modern Warfare 3 would outsell Battlefield 3 two to one margin. Recently-released numbers hint that he may have been correct.
-Yesterday, EA reported that Battlefield 3 has sold more than 10 million copies since launch. Activision reported back in December that Modern Warfare 3 had earned 1 billion dollars in 16 days but didn’t reveal the exact number of units sold and has been quiet ever since.
-Doing some very rough math, $1 billion divided by $60 per game means that Call of Duty may have sold as many as 16.6 million units as of November.
-2010’s Call of Duty: Black Ops sold an additional eight million units in the four months after its launch.
-Since Modern Warfare 3 is outselling black ops, four million units in two months is more than reasonable. Add that to the sixteen million we assumed earlier, and that means Modern Warfare 3 has sold twice as much as Battlefield’s reported sales figures.
My Opinion: I knew before the game came out that it would easily outsell Battlefield 3, and knew it would easily do better, its not a surprise to me, good job MW3.
